CBNS Credentials and Eligibility Requirements
The CBNS offers two credentials –
Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS) and Certified Nutrition Specialist – Scholar (CNS-S).
- The objective of the Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS) credential is to demonstrate that the individual has the advanced knowledge and clinical experience suited for the practice of science-based clinical nutrition.
- The objective of the Certified Nutrition Specialist – Scholar (CNS-S) credential is to demonstrate that the individual has the advanced knowledge, work experience, and scholarship suited for roles in nutrition science and research.
Please refer to the Quick Reference Summary for an overview of both credentials.
CBNS embraces the fact that nutrition is not a single profession, but a therapeutic tool used by many health professionals. We certify a diverse but select group of advance-degreed health professionals whose academic background, nutrition knowledge, and experience demonstrate the required depth and breadth in nutrition science.
